U16’s Win
After a nervous and rusty start to the season against Eagles, the U16’s bounced back on the weekend with a totally dominant display against Bandits. We scored 3 runs straight up which was very positive. The Bandits came straight back with 2 runs of their own.
That was it, from that point on, the guys kicked it up a gear and totally dominated the rest of the game The final score was 12-2. Akil started the game on the mound and threw an absolute bottler of game. The third innings saw him throw only 11 pitches.
It has only been a couple of weeks, but you can see from their faces and the way they are playing, they are all starting to gel quiet nicely. After missing a chance to bat in the first Game, Daniel Rankin got his first at bat this weekend and ended up getting a walk and eventually scoring. Some valuable information on lead offs and base running from Quiggy on Thursday night saw a huge improvement in the base running skills and their confidence on base.
To the point they were scaring the coach at some stages with the size of their leads (but they did have it covered). The biggest highlight of the weekend was the way the guys bounced back from the previous week and their plate discipline. They made the Bandits pitchers throw strikes which made our game easy. Well Done guys, great result.
We are playing at V Park this weekend. Following our Game, I understand the C2 team will be playing. If anyone is interested in assisting with this game, please let me know. Training is on Wed and Thurs night at 5pm. Wed night might see us go a little longer than normal, till about 7pm as we are having a light run with the Ladies Team.

U16’s First Hit Out
The Vikings U16 Team hit the field on Sat for our first game of the season against probably the best team in the age group. With only one training session under our belts it was going to be a hard task especially against a seasoned team of both rep players and guys playing in the seniors. The first couple of innings hit us pretty hard with limited experience on the mound. Akil, Burgo and Dylan gave it their best effort. The majority of the runs seem to come if the first couple of innings. I could also detect a little bit of nerves from the guys. The eventual score was 22-4. A couple of positives did come out of the game. We did happen to load the bases twice but was not fortunate enough to convert into runs. Discipline at the plate was very good. We did make the pitcher at least throw strikes which was very positive. Although the score was very one sided, I was very happy with the guys attitude. It could have been very easy to pack up and just go through the motions, however to their credit they did stick with it and grinded it out to the end. Our next game is against Bandits at Aranda at 9am.
We are going with 2 training sessions a week on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 5pm at the park. Other teams will be training as well so some moving around the diamond may be required. I have also sought some assistance from some old hats to help with our pitching. On Thursday night some of the A Grade pitchers will be going through some drills. We can slot in with them to get some very valuable pointers.
U12 Vikings Little League Start Season With a Win
The U12 Vikings started the season off well defeating the Indians by a score of 15-8. The team played extremely well in all aspects: hitting, fielding, pitching and catching. The Vikings batted first sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring 7 runs which set the tone for the game. Kurt Gosling pitched strong only giving up 2 runs over the first two innings. In total, the Vikings had 11 hits led by James Cappello with 3 hits in 3 at bats (3-3) and Thomas Phelps (2-2). In addition, the team was very disciplined at the plate: 6 walks and only 4 strike-outs.
The U12 Vikings have a bye for Round 2 (24-Oct), but will play an intra-squad scrimage game at Viking Park beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday.
