CALEB ALBRECHT DOMINATES EAGLES IN GRAND FINAL WIN

Caleb took to the hill in the Colts grand final against the Eagles team and completely dominated their hitters over the first five innings. Over Caleb’s 5 innings of work he allowed no hits, while walking 2 and striking out 9. Over one stretch of the game Caleb struck out 7 batters in a row! He also did not allow a hit ball to leave the infield. A very dominating performance indeed.

Our hitters did their job as well during the game with guys getting on base and running well on the base paths, with our team stealing 5 bases during the game. It was our aggressive running while on the base paths that put the pressure on the Eagles in the field. One play saw young Akil Rollings score from second base on a hard hit ball to left field by Chris Pallamountagne with Akil just beating the throw to home plate. Ryan Page also took advantage of his speed going from home to third on a ground ball in the infield with the throw getting by the first baseman, Ryan scored 2 runs during the game picking up 1 hit. James Burdin contributed with the bat hitting a bloop double behind the shortstop hustling on the play to second base, then blasting a double down the left field line picking up 2 RBIs.

Even with a scoreline of 6-4, it was a solid pitching game with both teams picking up only 4 hits each. The game also produced some solid defence with the Vikings only making 1 error in the field.

It was great to see so many Viking supporters in the stands making enough noise that the umpire had to ask them to be quiet, a fantastic effort and much appreciated by the team. The evening saw the entire team arrive at the Burdin’s house with many parents in tow where we celebrated our victory and present the boys with their awards from the season.

On a personnel note I would like to thank the boys for their fantastic gift for coaching the team this year, believe me, it will be put to good use. I would also like to thank my coaches for the year, Bill and Brian, without their help through the season we could not have run such successful training sessions. A big thank you too goes to Kyla Hunt for her outstanding job as the teams scorekeeper for the season, a thankless but very important job in the baseball community. Finally, I hope to see all of the colt players back playing baseball again next year as everyone this year has matured both as a player and an individual.

As I sign off from a very successful season I must leave you with a couple of final baseball quotes:

Baseball is the only game left for people.  To play basketball, you have to be 7 feet 6 inches.  To play football, you have to be the same width.  ~Bill Veeck, 1975

People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball.  I’ll tell you what I do.  I stare out the window and wait for spring.  ~Rogers Hornsby

Vikings Win! Vikings Win! Vikings Win!

The U13 Vikings Red had a come-from-behind victory against the top-ranked Bandits Blue to advance to the Little League Division 2 Championship game.  The Vikings fought hard all game and trailing 12-9 going into the last inning, scored 7 big runs.  Jack Brinkley took the mound in the bottom of the 4th and shut the Bandits down 1-2-3.  Vikings 16- Bandits 12.  This was truly a team victory with everyone contributing.  Jack pitched 2 outstanding innnings stifling the Bandit’s hitters.  Sam Smith came to the plate with bases-loaded in the top of the 3rd and hit a grand slam starting our comeback.  You could feel the momemtum shifting throughout the game.  It was a truly electrifying experience for the players, coaches, and parents.
